Risorgimento grew out of my fascination with Margaret Fuller, a woman who was at the center of some of the most consequential intellectual and political movements of the 19th century, yet has largely faded from public memory. I developed the project during the 2021 Cannes International Series Writers Residency, where I spent six months researching her remarkable life and building a detailed, scene-by-scene treatment for a feature film. The screenplay itself remains unwritten, but the story is one I've wanted to tell for years. Part historical epic, part love story, it's about a woman who spent her life challenging the limits of what women were allowed to do, and then went to Italy and lived that conviction in the middle of a revolution.
